Goodbye Coffins, Welcome Burial Pods!

There is an eco-friendly alternative to being buried in a coffin. It’s called Capsula Mundi

These pods were developed to offer a more practical solution to burials.

Each egg-shaped pd functions like a coffin that can hold a deceased body for burial.3

The body in this biodegradable burial pod is placed in a fetal position. 4

When the body inside the pod is buried, a tree is planted right above so that its roots will benefit from the nutrients.5

“The tree is chosen when the person is alive. The relatives and friends look after it when death occurs.” explained Anna Citelli and Raoul Bretzel, the inventors of the Capsula Mundi.6

This is the basic process of the Capsula Mundi.7 8

With the Capsula Mundi, a human body does not only become a source of nourishment for the tree but it also provides an organic monument for the loved ones to visit.9

Unlike the cold and deathly ambiance of a cemetery, a memorial forest is full of life and lush greenery.10

Each pod is transformed into an eco-friendly monument that serves both as a memento of the human life while contributing to the health of mother earth. 11
